He was born July 25, 1942 to Coleman W. and Madge (Killus) Harper. In April of 1969 he married Elaine C. Sapp in Bloomington.
Melvin was an engineer for Normal Fire Department for 33years driving Truck number 13. He was a Free Mason and served in the United States Navy. Melvin enjoyed Nascar, Trap shooting and riding his motorcycle. He loved to go to flee markets and antique shops with his wife Elaine; they were “true collectors” but above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children: Lori (Chris) Eustis of Lawndale, IL and John W. Harper of Bloomington; grandchildren: Danielle Harper and Devyn W. Eustis both of Lawndale, IL

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elaine on May 14, 2004.
Services were private.
