Nancy L. Petersen

Nancy Herman Petersen, 63, of Bloomington, Illinois passed away on July 31,2016. Nancy was born October 2, 1952 in Concord, New Hampshire. She was the loving daughter of F. Lee and Eileen Herman. She married Bruce Petersen on June 4,1983.

Nancy held a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois and was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She was a psychiatric social worker in the Bloomington area for much of her life. Nancy and her husband Bruce bred and exhibited Irish Terriers under the Hunter Moon kennel name since 1996, finishing seventeen AKC Champions. Nancy was currently exhibiting the number one Owner-Handled Irish Terrier in the country. She has

also exhibited her dogs in Barn Hunt, Obedience, and Lure Coursing. Over the years, she served the Irish Terrier Club of America as board member, specialty coordinator, legislative liaison and trophy chairperson. As a member of the Irish Terrier Club of

Chicago, Nancy served as president, board member, show chairperson, trophy chairperson and legislative liaison. Locally she belonged to the Corn Belt Kennel Club and was a life member of the Town & Country Kennel Club.. For TCKC she served on the board of directors, Barn Hunt Committee, organized the STAR puppy program and was a puppy class trainer. Nancy was an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

She represented Corn Belt KC on the Heart of Illinois Cluster Committee for the annual four-day dog shows over Memorial Day weekend and served as the obedience chairperson for the cluster. She served on the board, the Judging Selection Committee and was the Conformation Class Coordinator. Nancy dedicated much of her life to the sport and will be greatly missed by the entire dog show community. Nancy is survived by son Brian and half-brother Roger Lee Herman of Custer,SD. She was preceded in death by her parents F. Lee and Eileen Herman, and her sister Margaret (Peggy). Nancy’s husband Bruce also passed away on July 31, 2016. Celebration of Life will take place at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home at 1115 E. Washington Street in Bloomington on Saturday, August 13 at 11am.
