LEXINGTON—Nelda June McCord, 93, Lexington, passed away on the morning of Monday, May 3, 2021, at her home in Lexington.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3 (which would have been her 94th birthday) at Eastview Christian Church, Normal, with the Rev. Michael Baker officiating.
June was born on June 3, 1927, in Knox County, Indiana, daughter of Roy Frank Lane and Estell Sylvanis Lane (maiden name Riggle). June was happily married to Wallace McCord for decades before his passing in 2012.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Benedict, Lexington; one son, David (Laura) McCord, Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Londa Anderson, Leesa (Stephen) Friedmansky, Lance (Andi) Benedict, Lindsey (Michael Powell) Benedict, Jess McCord, Kyle (Lydia) McCord, and Claire (Jason) Mussar; twelve great-grandchildren; Morgan, Korbin, and Britan Anderson; Ashton, Skyler, Logan and Blaine Friedmansky; Landes Benedict; Gabriel, Brynley, and Noah Powell; and August McCord.
June was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers.
June retired from teaching at age 55 after 28 years in the Lexington (Unit 7) school system. She loved providing for all generations of her family, and will be particularly remembered as a fabulous cook with Southern flair arising from her upbringing in southern Indiana. She loved the Lord, and was a longtime and devoted member of Eastview Christian Church. Now she is having a joyous and unending family reunion with Jesus, her parents, her husband, her brothers, and all the others she loved who have gone on before to their heavenly reward.
