Paul A. Burnes, 66, of Melvin passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Gibson City Hospital in Gibson City. He was born January 17, 1957 in Chicago Heights, IL, to Frank D. and Violet K. (Klaege) Burnes.
Paul was a proud Navy veteran, who worked the majority of his life as a Union mechanic and machinist. He was a lifelong inventor, who was always working with his hands and loved helping others. Paul loved to fly in his free time and was also an avid gardener, best known for his asparagus. He loved dogs and donated much of his time and resources to the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue.
Surviving are his siblings: Robin (Michael) Tessereau of WI, Donata (Peter) Erdmann of IL; nephews and nieces: Todd (Brandy) Burnes of IN, Adam Burnes of IL, Tonya (Terry) Hauptli of IN, Matthew Markwalder of CA, Andrew (Sherry) Harders of IL, Shannon (Mike) Robey of IN, Fritz (Fred) Burnes of IN; countless great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins: Brian Petritsch of VA, Lillie Jean “Sissy” Flanders of IN, Dean Warren of IN, and Steve Burnes of IN.
He is preceded in passing by his parents: Frank D. and Violet K. Burnes; and brother: Fred E. Burnes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Scrementis Restaurant, 3760 Chicago Road, Steger, IL, 60475, on January 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Cremation rites and arrangements have been entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wabash Valley Community Foundation to support the Sullivan Animal Shelter at 200 South 8th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
