

Margaret (Peggy) A. Herman, 53, of Bloomington passed away at 2:52pm on June 6, 2010 at her residence, following a brief illness.
She was born November 16, 1956 in Bloomington the daughter of F. Lee and Eileen Healy Herman.
Margaret is survived by one sister Nancy (Bruce) Petersen; her nephew Brian, half brother Roger (Carol) Herman, and stepchildren David Smith and Stephanie Smith VanderWalker. She is also survived by her long time companion, Steve Daley.
She is preceded in death by her parents F. Lee and Eileen Healy Herman.
Peggy was a 1974 graduate of Bloomington High School. She received an undergraduate degree in Special education, a graduate degree in counseling and a PhD in educational administration, all from Illinois State University.
She taught special education at Woodruff High School In Peoria and at Metcalf and University High laboratory schools in Normal. She was an assistant professor at the National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois and served as principal at Sherman Elementary in Streator and Stanford Elementary School. After retiring from education Peggy worked for the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Bloomington.
Among Peggy’s passions were education, children, cooking and enjoying life. She believed in inspiring others to learn and follow their dreams, and to keep a sense of humor when facing life’s challenges.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends and would want us to remember that “life is too important to be taken seriously”.
A Memorial visitation will be held at 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday June 15, 2010 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Cremation rites have been accorded.
