

Penny is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Matthews, and her three children, Jason (Shelly) Matthews, Tisha (Jake) Van Horn and Heather Matthews (fiance, Micah Johnson; her mother, Elizabeth Ann Purcell; her grandchildren, Rylee, Ayden, Sydnee Matthews and Elliot Van Horn.
She was preceded in death by her father, William "Bill" Purcell.
Penny was a graduate of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Mich. She was a dedicated and award-winning nurse beginning in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, and completing her career at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, as assistant manager of the Comprehensive Care Unit.
As a longstanding member of the Knoxville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Peoria, Penny will be remembered for her gift of music and her love for all of God’s creatures.
Visitation is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home of Bloomington. Services, under the direction of Pastor Larry Clonch, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Funeral Home of Bloomington. Memorials in her honor can go to the Community Cancer Center Foundation, Normal, or the American Cancer Society.
