Richard Alan Kagel

He was born on March 1, 1958, in Normal, IL., to the late Kenneth Eugene and Rose Marie (Pfeifer) Kagel. Richard had three siblings, Barb (Steve) King, Fred Kagel and Tom (Marty) Kagel.

Dad was raised on a farm in rural LeRoy, Illinois. As a young man he worked with this parents and siblings on the farm and developed a love and passion for it. After he graduated from LeRoy High School, he worked full time on the farm with his Father, Kenneth. Dad went on to marry and have three children, Robert (Renee) Kagel of LeRoy, Jennifer (Jeremy) Medler of Mahomet and Brian (Mindy) Kagel of LeRoy. After his father passed away, dad continued to work on the family farm with his two sons.

Over the years, Dad developed a love for old John Deere tractors and Chevrolet. You would never catch him in anything but green unless it was his Backhoe. He also had immense love for his eight grandchildren and his favorite non-human, his dog Jake. He was his happiest when his entire family was together laughing and making fun of each other and watching his grandkids run around. He loved taking them on gator rides or showing them his pond. If Dad wasn’t in the field driving his combine, or in his shed building something from scratch, or working on fence, you would find him fishing with his grandkids, helping his daughter fix something or he would be working at the shop with his boys or arguing back and forth with his lifelong best friend John (Wanda) Trenkle. He also enjoyed many nights at the LeRoy Sportsman Club where he was a Lifetime Member or could be found at the Fuzzy Duck sitting at his favorite barstool holding a Busch Light, with so many of his friends.

Dad was the true definition of a farmer. He worked hard for everything he had and loved being a farmer. He not only will be missed immensely by his family and Jake but also by everyone he ever met.

We would also like to thank the LeRoy Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance for all they did to help dad that day. The respect and dignity you showed will forever be appreciated.

Dad requested no services but a celebration of life will be held at a later date so we can celebrate a life well lived.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
