Visitation will be from 5 – 8 pm Thursday, March 21, 2013 at East Lawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 am Friday at the funeral home.Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington.

Robert was born on March 29, 1924 in Alton, IL the son of Robert L. Garrett and Della Garrett. He married Laura Schumacher on June 22, 1952.
Surviving is his wife Laura, sons David (Cheryl) and Mark (Kelly) all of Bloomington, grandsons Danny (Colleen), Christopher, and Ian, granddaughter Mallory, great grandsons Eric, Maverick, and Bradley, two sisters Mary Sieg and Irene Fulkerson, three half-brothers John, Rollin, and Floyd, and two step-sisters Lucile Drum and Louise Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harold, two half-sisters, two step-brothers, and two step-sisters.
Robert graduated from Bloomington High School and attended Illinois State University. He served in the United States Navy and Fleet Marines during World War II. He retired from State Farm as a computer analyst.
He was an avid golf enthusiast starting as a caddy at Highland Park Golf Course. He and his good buddy, Cleo Yantz, won several city golf association awards. He bowled many years and taught in the youth bowling programs. Robert took up skiing at age 59 and taught at Chestnut Mountain, IL, Keystone and Copper Mountain, CO.
A special thank you to the Meadow’s employees and Dr. Hakes who helped Bob through the twilight zones associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
