

Sylvia was born November 2, 1928 in South Pekin, Illinois to Edward and Golda (Icenogle) Pool. She grew up in Creve Coeur. She graduated from Academy of Our Lady in Peoria. She met John Tobias on a blind date one night in 1948 and ended up marring him on January 21, 1949. They moved to a farm in Mackinaw and then in 1952 they moved to a farm in Carlock. She left the city to become a farm girl.
She was employed at GTE Telephone Company for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was also a member of Denman Mothers Club in Carlock, also enjoying reading, growing roses and was a wonderful cook and a fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Marc) Judd; grandchildren, Chip (Nicole) Welch, Isaac (Erin) Judd and Rachel (Adam) Janssen; great grandchildren, Annabelle and Grace Welch, Haley and Zeke Janssen and Samantha Hines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; daughter, Babara Welch and granddaughter, Molly Hines.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 30,2016 in the Carlock Mennonite Church, 217 E Washington St, Carlock, IL at 10:30 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 until the time of services at the church.
