Troy was born July 19, 1935, in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of Ellis and Onie Mazella Cupples. He married Suzanne Champley on August 25, 1957, in Franklin Park, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are their children: Cherie (Bret) Chamberlain of Kentucky; Beth (Brad) Goldstein of Florida; Troy (Julie) Cupples, Jr. of North Carolina; and Amy (Tony) Dennis of Illinois. He has 11 grandchildren: Maggie (Chris); Abbie; Christina; Evan (Julia); Daniel; Alyssa; Jacob; Hayden; James Teagun; Eli; and Kristin (Cody); and 12 great-grandchildren: Gabe, Keeley, Holden, Jonah, Ava, Theoren, Parker, Cole, Kenzie, Cooper, Kylie and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Cupples; and two sisters, Faye Wade and Doris Monehan.
Troy was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. After the military, he worked for US Steel as an Iron Worker under local union 393. Later, he owned his own fence company and then was a professional truck driver. He enjoyed traveling across the United States with Sue in their RV. They especially enjoyed their experience as snowbirds which included time with all their children and families. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved attending events and being able to be a part of the pit crew. Serving God was an important part of Troy’s life. He served the church and those in need with a dedicated spirit.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. A private graveside service will be held on Friday at Hudson Township Cemetery. Following the graveside, a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Baptist Church.
