My big brother tried to teach his little brother magic tricks and juggling without much success . Our favorite pastime as kids was playing tricks on our live-in grandfather. He was a loyal son and a fierce defender of his family. I will miss our sunday afternoon phone chats. Above all he was my brother.

My Dad taught all of us kids the value of an honest day's work. He worked hard to provide for us, and loved to fish, fix up his houses, and haggling with dealers about car prices. He was a pretty good joke teller, and fiercely independent.

I will miss Vail. I have lived next door to him for 12 years and always admired his will and determination to remain able to care for his own needs. We have had a few talks as neighbors in his garage.
