Her memorial service will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home 1102 Airport rd,61704, at 11:00AM, Cremation rites have been accorded by East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Inurnment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Church, 1311 West Hovey Avenue, Normal, IL.

Born on August 23, 1948 in Bloomington, daughter of Deane H. and Alfa Mae Bond Riley. She married Fred Alan Tanner on August 26, 1969, he preceded her in death on November 26, 2012. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Riley.

Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca (Travis) Thacker of Bloomington and Cynthia (Nicholas) Shaffer of Normal and four grandchildren, Addison & Carter Thacker and Noah & Ruth Shaffer. Also surviving are one brother, Gary Riley of Bloomington; one sister, Pamela (Jan) Garber of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Valerie was a graduate of Heyworth High School.

She first worked at Peoples Bank, but later she worked in the office of her husband's business, Tanner Roofing. While working alongside her husband, she also worked for many years as a lunch lady with Unit 5.

Valerie loved to laugh, liked funny movies and enjoyed long walks. She also was a devoted to her faith and a member of Grace Church, Normal.
