

Born August 9,1929 at her family home in Cullom Illinois, the daughter of Frank Trost and Alta Mortimore/Trost.
She was an extremely devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Friend.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Peggy(Terry)Malcome, Grandchildren; Andrew Woodburn, Allison Malcome and Stephanie Hall. Great Grandson, Braylin Depaepe.
Preceded in death by Frank Trost (Father), Alta Mortimore/Trost (Mother).
Four brothers; Cotton, Laverne, Art, and Harry.Two sisters; Helen and Loretta.
Devout Husband, Andy Lawrence and children; Daniel Lawrence (Son) and Becca Lawrence (Daughter).
After graduation from Cullom Community High School in 1947, Velma moved to Bloomington. She held various positions of employment, working at Funk Bros Seed Co.,The Falcon Restaurant, Illinois State University and East Central Illinois Agency on Aging. While employed at The Falcon Restaurant she met her lifelong friend, Marilyn Wiechman. Later in life she continued her education at Lincoln College earning her Associate’s Degree with an emphasis in Secretarial Skills.
Velma and Andy spent many years farming West of Bloomington. Her passionate love of gardening remained with Velma her entire life. She loved tending to her garden of beautiful flowers and would joke with friends about how, “Playing in the dirt is my therapy”. Her intelligent devotion for plants was passed to her kids and grandchildren of whom share the same love and “green thumb”.
Velma was a woman of many stories, laughs, and abundant smiles. She was always the first to say how proud she was. Even if the accomplishment was tiny, she was proud of you for it. She loved every person she met with her entire heart. Velma, Mom, Aunt, Granny... will never be forgotten however missed terribly.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2 from 11-1pm at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with service and burial to follow.
