

Allan R. Smith, age 72, of Ellettsville, died Friday afternoon at his residence. Born November 1, 1942 in Mitchell, Indiana, he was the son of Leroy and Vivian Olive (Taylor) Smith. He was a Bloomington High School graduate, class of 1960 and a U.S. Army National Guard veteran. He retired in 2001 from G.E. in Bloomington where he was a controlman. He was an avid fisherman and a former member of Hoosier Bassmasters. He also was a member of Burton Woolery American Legion Post # 18 in Bloomington and had formerly attended Mitchell Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (May) Smith, of Ellettsville; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jennifer Smith, of Greensburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and C.J. Craig, of Ellettsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Jerry Holtrey, of Cleveland, Ohio and Kathy and Nelson Shaffer, of Bloomington; one brother and sister-in-law, Marc and Cindy Smith, of Ellettsville and three grandchildren, Bryce Craig, Benjamin Craig and Bobby Teters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary; 700 W. Gourley Pike. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the American Lung Association.
