Obituary of Allen J. Hickman
Allen J. “Sonny” Hickman, 87, passed away on October 3, 2018 in Hearthstone Health Campus with his family by his side. Allen was born on July 17, 1931 in Bloomington, Indiana to Jesse C. Hickman and Manda Ellen (Reynolds) Hickman. Allen was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from Otis elevator. He loved to talk about his time in Japan. HE never met a stranger or a dog he didn’t love. He was a wonderful caring man who was loved by all. Allen was a member of the American Legion and the Forrester’s and GoodSam Camping Club. He was an avid I.U. fan who loved watching the games. He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed. Allen was a member of the Ellettsville Church of Christ. He married Willette “Deanie” Hammer on June 2, 1984. They enjoyed traveling throughout their married life. Allen is survived by his loving wife Willette “Deanie” Hickman, his daughters; Cindy (John) Bowers of Smithville, IN, Debbie (Rob) Hudson of Bloomington, IN, Jane (Bruce) Bowen of Portland, IN., and his brother David J. Hickman of Dover, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Rachael (Bill) Sipes of Bloomington, IN, Marty Weddle of Bloomington, IN, Lindsey (Brian) Paulsen of Bloomington, IN, Sara (Jason) Barton of Portland, IN, Brock (Brandy) Bowen of Portland, IN, and great- grandchildren Billy and Caleb Sipes, Ryder and Wyatt Paulsen, Ryan Herring, Emmarie and Carter Barton and several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Carolyn Baxter, his brother Bob Hickman and his first wife Sue (May) Hickman in 1984. Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W. Gourley Pike, Bloomington, Indiana 47404. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. also in the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Johnny Edwards will officiate. Burial in Valhalla Memory Gardens with the Monroe County Honor Guard and the US Army presiding. In Lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions made to Intrepid Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
