Barbara Joyce Hawkins

Barbara J. (Greeson) Hawkins passed quietly away at her residence in Ellettsville with her family by her side on the evening of August 22, 2018. Barbara was born on September 21, 1937 in Bloomington. Barb was a loving wife to Richard E. Hawkins. They married on June 3, 1955 in Dolan, IN and celebrated 59 years of a loving marriage. He preceded her in death in 2015. Barb worked at Indiana University in the mail room as a clerk. She truly loved I.U. and gave her children the love of I.U. sports and would often be found boarding a tour bus for a fun excursion. She would also be known for the woman who waved at you from the poolside while getting a great tan. Barb was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ellettsville. Barb is survived by her three children and their spouses; Russell (Cathy) Hawkins of Ellettsville, Cheryl (Kenneth) Thompson of Taylorsville, KY, and Ronald (Rebecca) Hawkins of Bloomington. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Ben (Susan) Hawkins, Ashley Hawkins, Christa Hawkins, Tyler Hawkins and Hannah Thompson and one great-grandchild; Audrey Hawkins. She is also survived by two sisters; Marcella Johnson and Judy (Gilbert) Leistner. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen Hankins and her brother Donald Greeson. Visitation for Barb will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 1- 4 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Ellettsville, 115 S. Sale St. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. also in the First Baptist Church with Mark Villanova officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ellettsville.
