

Cynthia Diane Allen, age 75, of Bloomington died Sunday morning at the Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington. Born December 29, 1940 in Monroe County, she was the step-daughter of Raymond “Dick” Martin and daughter of Lois Mae (Adkins) Martin. She was a graduate of Bloomington High School, class of 1958. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and canning the vegetable produce, enjoyed doing needlepoint and serving as a volunteer at the Opportunity House and serving in many capacities as a member of Woodhaven Christian Church, especially with the Easter egg hunts and vacation bible school. She was a member of the “High Hopes” Homemakers as well. She retired as an executive secretary in the office of vice-president of Indiana University-Bloomington located in Bryan Hall. She formerly had worked for Dean Batchelder in the School of Education and for Dean Woods in the School of Music.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Allen, of Bloomington; two sons, Steve (Karen) Allen and David (Christine) Allen, both of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Maggie Allen, Cooper Allen, Riley Allen, Abigail Allen and Elizabeth Allen; one step-sister, Sharon (Jerry) Martin Funkhouser, of Greene County and one half-brother, Jon Martin, of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one half-sister, Peggy Martin and one step-brother, Raymond “Padge” Martin.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel; 700 W. Gourley Pike with Rev. Ron Sutherlin officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Woodhaven Christian Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
