Gary R. Purnell

Gary Ralph Purnell, 73, of Bloomington died Saturday, November 17, 2018 in I.U. Health, Bloomington Hospital. He was born November 21, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio to James Francis Purnell and Joyce Perkins Purnell. He was a retired drafting engineer for Westinghouse/ABB.
Survivors include five children, Jason Purnell of Bloomington, Tobias Purnell of Bloomington, Liesl (husband Steve) Purnell Wingert of Olney, IL, Hans Huffman of Bloomington and Mark Huffman of Bloomington; a special friend, Sue of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two sisters, Elizabeth Purnell of Scottsburg and Patricia (husband Howard) Taylor of Bloomington; a brother, Richard (wife Marguerite) Purnell of North Vernon; eight grandchildren, Maybelle Sloan, Atticus Purnell, Zachary Wingert, Tanner Wingert, Joshua Wingert, Cali Wingert, Cassidy (husband J. T.) Finch and Elijah Huffman; three great grandchildren, Ellidy Finch, Silas Wingert and Harper Wingert; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon Purnell; a sister, Linda who died in infancy; and a son, David Huffman.
Gary was a member of Bloomington Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, playing music, watching Jason and Toby play in their band Crooked County and was the former owner of the Cellar Lounge.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Bloomington Free Methodist Church, 1121 S. Lincoln Ave. There will be a private burial in Vernon Cemetery, Vernon, IN. Deremiah-Frye Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
