Howard Austin “Bud” Wilson, 79, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife and children by his side.

Howard was born to the late Anna E. (Wells) and Harvey Austin Wilson, October 24, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana. Howard graduated from Bloomington High School in 1952. He married Doris J. Frye in 1957 and they lived together in Bloomington, Indiana.

Howard loved people and devoted his career to public service. Shortly after graduating from Bloomington High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during the Korean War and met some of the men who were to become his best lifelong friends. Upon completing his term of military service, he served the Bloomington community as a proud member of the Bloomington Police Department from 1957 through his retirement as Assistant Chief in 1987, during which he was awarded the first Policeman-Of-The-Year award in 1961 “for his consistent efficiency and devotion to duty”. Having more to give to the community, Howard returned to work as an investigator for the State of Indiana Medical Licensing Board and then served as bailiff for the Monroe Circuit Court until he finally retired in 1998.

Howard was an active member of the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 2000, the American Legion and a past member of the Gideon’s International. He loved spending time with his family, traveling and working outdoors.

Howard is survived by his loving wife Doris Jean(Frye)Wilson, two children: Cindy(John)Walker of Ellettsville, Bill Wilson of Bloomington and his sister: Marie(Elvin)Jones. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Carrie(Jason)Terrell of Hendricksville, John Robert Walker and Jacob Walker of Ellettsville and Rachel Wilson of Bloomington.
