Mary B. (Koontz) Allgood, 89, of Bloomington passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her daughters on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Mary was born June 2, 1930 in South Bend, IN to the late Clifford C. Koontz, Sr. and Gladys (Dickinson) Koontz. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1948. After graduation she moved to Chicago, IL where she worked as a secretary for the AAA Insurance Company and for the Speidel Watch Company. While in Chicago she loved to dance to the Big Band sounds with her good friend Bernie and going to the beach at Lake Michigan with her girllfriends Millie and Brigitta. After a couple of years, she returned to Monroe County where she worked for Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington and later at RCA, also in Bloomington retiring after 26 years of service there. Mary loved her job at RCA where she made lifelong friends including Frances Mosely, as well as her buddy Marie LaBorne, both of whom attended many family holidays throughout the years. She enjoyed spending time with Betty Harris, her neighbor of fifty years who was like a sister to her. Watching sports with her son-in-law, Bric and motorcycle riding with her other son-in-law, Tom, were special times for her. Mary had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. Her interests were writing poetry, attending plays, musicals, ballet and operas, jigsaw puzzles, classical westerns, aviation, airshows, gardening, bird watching, a love for animals and clogging to Bluegrass music. Mary also played several instruments including accordion, piano, guitar and mandolin. Most of all she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and witnessed of Him to all she met. Embracing a part of her own heritage, she had a very special place in her heart for all things Jewish and attended many Messianic Jewish services in Indianapolis, IN led by Rabbi Jeff Adler of Sha’arey Yeshua Congregation. In 1950 she married Frank M. Allgood who preceded her in death in 2011. Together they had four daughters who survive: Diana Vieira, of Worthington, Darlene “Amanda” Rusk, of Stinesville, Loretta (Tom) Rice, of Bloomfield and Lorraine (Bric) Compton, of Smithville. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Tina Highberger, Anya Vieira, Andrew Hays, Matthew Hays, Stephanie Hays and Richard (MaryKate) Compton.
