Born Oct. 13, 1929, in Lawrence County, Ind., to William and Lois Fields, she was raised with three older brothers: Bill, Robert, and Don, and younger sister, Catherine.
Maryann attended Dive Elementary School in Bedford. She took piano lessons for seven years and music was always a big part of her life. She was also active in 4-H club and loved baking. After the war started, she worked at various places, including Hoover's Restaurant in Bedford when she was 14. It was an exciting time for a young girl because sailors would come to town on weekends. Later, she worked at Franklin Drug Store, among other places.
In 1946, Maryann met the love of her life Louis “Louie” Hall, who had just returned from war. They dated all summer and he enrolled at Indiana University in fall. She was a senior at Oolitic High School. They married on Dec., 21, 1946. They lived with his family until she graduated in April 1947. Louis graduated from IU in the fall of 1949.
Their first son, Michael, was born in 1949 in Blufton. They lived in Montpelier, where Louis had his first math teaching job. In 1950, they moved to Muncie, where their second son Steve was born in 1951 and where Louis worked on his master's degree. They then moved to Bryant, where Louis taught math at Bryant High School. During the summer they went back to Bedford so Louis could finish his master's at IU. He then landed a job at Bloomington High School teaching math.
When their sons attended McCalla Elementary in Bloomington, Maryann was active in the PTA, a room mother at the school, and a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
Their third son, Jay was born in 1956. During this time, Maryann was active in teaching bible school at West Second Street Church of Christ. In 1966, she started working at IU bookstore, staying there for 24 years. Later, they changed membership to North Central Church of Christ. After Louis passed away in 1994, Maryann was active with Senior Seekers, and helped cooked meals for funerals and during times when others needed food. She was also later active in the Red Hat Society.
Maryann is survived by her three sons, Michael of Grand Junction, Colo., Steve (Renee) of Paynes Creek, Calif., and Jay of Bloomington. Also, five grandchildren, Mark, Matthew (Rita), Justin (Patti), Jessica, and Sara (Chris). Also, great-grandchildren, Christian, Melanie, Aiden, Chloe, and Anna. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Louis, her parents, three brothers and two brothers-in-law.
A showing will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in North Central Church of Christ, 2121 Dunn St. Bloomington, IN 47408. Services will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday also in the church. Internment will be at Valhalla Cemetery, 310 N Johnson Ave, in Bloomington.
