

William David Gibson, lovingly known as "David", 69, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 in Bloomington, Indiana. He was born on May 11, 1947 in Indianapolis to the late Walter Lee Gibson and Jane Evangeline Scott Gibson.
David attended Indiana University. He had third degree black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, and retired full contact competitor and a martial arts instructor. David taught for the Indiana University Tae Kwon Do Club, was also an instructor for the Bloomington Athletic Club. In 1980, he opened P.A.C. Martial Arts Studio in Bloomington where he was the head instructor. He was the recipient of a certificate of appreciation for dedicated service and outstanding contribution to Tae Kwon Do from the Midwest Tae Kwon Do Federation.
On October 23, 1993, he married the love of his life, Caryl Drake. They were the best of friends. From that love, they build a beautiful marriage and family.
He was employed with Target for 25 years. He retired as a supervisor from PTS Corporation in Bloomington, Indiana. Also, he enjoyed working on computers and was certified in building and repairing computers.
He is survived by his wife, Caryl (Drake) Gibson, of 23 years; sons, William David Gibson, Jr., Daniel Gibson, Jeremy Helms, and Joshua Helms; sisters, Sharon Kay Gibson Holland, Jane E. Gibson, Connie Gibson McCollum, and Marshall Gibson; brothers, Wallace C. Gibson, Marcell Gibson, and Rondinel Gibson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
