Alvin Alfonso Lyew, 91, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016 at his home in Boca Raton, Florida.
Alvin was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies on March 27, 1924 to Evadne and William Lyew. He attended the Durham School of Commerce in Kingston, Jamaica, and earned a Diploma in Accounting. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mavis Chung, in November 1950; they had a happy and fruitful marriage until Mavis’s passing in August 2011. For his work life Alvin was a businessman including running a gas station, a Colgate Palmolive distributorship and a book store. Both he and Mavis retired in June 1986 and migrated to Florida to join their children.
Alvin is preceded in death by his brothers Arthur and Bertie, sister Cherry, son Errol, and daughter Marjorie.
He is survived by his children, Glennis, Ordelle, Derrick, Michael and Barbara; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Noel and Willie, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Babione Funeral Home in Boca Raton, on Saturday March 5th 2016 at 11:30am to 12:30pm. A service will follow at 12:30pm at Babione Funeral Home. After the service, friends and family are invited to join us at Lucky Palace Restaurant, 21659 State Road 441, Baca Raton (Target Plaza).
