Angela Camerota Matteis, born Feb 11, 1927, passed peacefully on July 12, 2026. She was one of 9 children born to Salvatore Michael Camerota and Angela Paperella, both from Italy. She was born in Pennsylvania and lived most of her life in Connecticut until moving to Boca in 1957. She will join in heaven her husband Sal, 2 sons, Vincent and Sal (skip), along with 3 brothers (Adam, James & Sam), 4 sisters (Phyllis, Mary, Florence, Eleanore). She is survived by her sister Jesse, her daughter Toni, 7 grandchildren (Dana, Heather, Christian, Farrah, Sally, Christa, Sal), and 11 great-grandchildren (Gabriella, Daniela, Dillon, Zachary, Vincent, Gianna, Cameron, Sloan, Charlotte, Augustus, and Christian Jr.).
Angela (Mema) owned and operated Sal’s Sport Shop from 1964-1990 in Boca and Delray Beach. She was known to all the budding athletes as Mom or Mrs. Sal. Upon retiring she was able to embrace her highest calling a grandma and great-grandma. Even though she didn’t necessarily like to cook her meatballs were renowned. Anyone who was lucky enough to have one or join a Sunday family dinner is left with a lasting impression of her amazing meatballs (in sauce & not). Life’s adversities led Mema to become the Matriarch pillar of her family. Her strength, grace, dignity and unfaltering love for everyone has inspired multiple generations to follow. Those who knew her were truly blessed, may she rest in peace.
