July 24, 1930 – July 4, 2018
This is dedicated to the one we love Audrey Scalley July 24, 1930-July 4, 2018
Some people live long and live well…….. Our mother Audrey Scalley celebrated life each and every day to the fullest. Her celebration ended July 4, 2018 at Hospice By the Sea in Boca Raton , Florida. She began her life July 24, 1930 in Jamaica Plain, MA. The daughter of Helen Stewart and sister to Martha Stewart and James Stewart. She was proud to have attended Girls Latin School. She loved the Boston Public Library, Manchester by the Sea and summers on the farm with her grandparents. She married Jack Scalley from Woburn, MA and began her family that she loved. First Kevin Scalley now in Wellfleet, Ma, then Kolleen Kender in Brewster, MA then Julie Seabury in Melrose, MA and John Scalley who sadly left us in 1990. We grew up in Stoneham , MA where she made sure you cleaned your room She cleaned our white sneakers with white shoe polish and made us bologna and mustard and relish sandwiches for lunch. She took us to art museums and York Beach, Maine in the summer. She loved bringing John to the market in town. Her son-in-laws Frank Seabury and Steven Kender were always there to help her out. She felt very lucky and comforted that her girls were well taken care of by them. She shared her name with her grand-daughter Audrey Kender. She bought her a jazzy car to travel to college with in Philadelphia. She wished Ryan Seabury , her grandson all her love as he marries at the end of the summer. She travelled to California to visit her grand-daughters Jaimee Seabury and Kaytee Seabury. She thought the world of them and always told them to shoot for the moon. She was fascinated with her great grandchildren Finn McCarthy, Otis McCarthy and Blythe Boehme. She especially loved their videos filled with song and laughter. She shared her recipes with her grand-daughters Margot Boehme and Mallory Kender and Margot’s husband Geoff Boehme as they opened the doors to their new café. She loved all the things they could do and cook. She owned the Wellfleet Spirits Shoppe in Wellfleet, MA and enjoyed sitting out front and watching the world go by. She did enjoy a scotch with family and friends. She spent a lot of time in Wellfleet with her grandsons Brian Scalley and Brendan Scalley. She travelled the world both in body and in spirit through trips, books and movies. She had many clippings of places she would still like to go. Ireland was her favorite place. In her last days she loved her newspaper, her Foster Grants, the color blue, her radio, her sweets and most of all she loved all of us. We will say a sweet goodbye and celebrate her life in early September in Brewster, MA and later in October in Boca Raton, Fl.

Thank you Izel. Yes tears have rolled, conversations missed and her journey travelled. Oh, how she loved her bench. The plaque they placed there keeps the conversations going. She would treasure your words as I am now. We will keep her in our hearts forever. We are lucky to share her and her bench with all of you xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

With Tears rolling, I want to remember my dear friend of 5 years Audrey as the most inspirational, positive, inteligent, caring person I had the honor of knowing and sharing with. There is not a day that goes by I don't think of Audrey. I moved two buildings down the street from Audrey just as her new journey was beginning, but the most beautiful memories sitting on the bench outside our condo and having our afternoon cocktail and talking about EVERYTHING, life, children and oh how she shared about her daughters, her John, grandchildren..... always so proud. We had the best times on the bench and if the rain did not allow Audrey would always say come inside sit with me..... Gone but never forgotten.... I miss my Audrey.
