Cecilia Furguiele

Born on February 26, 1944, in Libano, Colombia, Cecilia was a woman of remarkable courage and quiet determination. After earning her bachelor's degree in international law and diplomacy, she came to New York City in the 1970s as an immigrant. Without speaking much English, she found work at a company located in the World Trade Center. She was there during the construction of the towers, even carrying with her, quite literally, a small metal shard from those early days that once lodged in her eye.

It was on a horse ranch that she met the love of her life, Tony. She played hard to get, but he eventually won her heart. When their daughter was born, Cecilia devoted herself fully to family. Together, she, Tony, and their daughter traveled the world, and she made sure her daughter received the added education that only different countries and cultures can offer. The family lived for a year in Spain before settling in Boca Raton.

Even after her daughter was grown, Cecilia and Tony continued to explore the world together. She volunteered generously, worked at Lord and Taylor simply for the joy of it, and later became her husband's devoted caretaker for many years. She did this with love, always making sure he was well put together and handsome as ever. He called her his angel.

Cecilia had a gift for making everyone feel loved and accepted. She was funny without trying, always up for anything, and forever putting others before herself. No matter what she was facing, she would say she was perfect. So many considered her a mother, and she was, quite simply, the epitome of one. Her Colombian cooking was second to none, and her family was her greatest treasure. She was her daughter's best friend.

A deeply faithful woman, Cecilia met every Monday with her rosary group and volunteered at her church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tony Furguiele. She is survived by her daughter, Andréa Legato.

A Memorial Mass will be held on September 18, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 21689 Toledo Road, Boca Raton, FL 33433.
