Daniel Eugene Portwood

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Eugene Portwood in his Boca Raton home on July 28. Born in Jefferson County, Alabama, Daniel was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. His kindness had no boundaries and all who knew him in his 46 years were better for it. He was an accomplished professional, acting as Senior Product Manager for a major consumer products company with global operations. His contributions to his company are incalculable. His warm smile, compassionate demeanor and endearing personality made him loved and admired both at work and socially. Many at work new him as 'Sugar Bear' because his charm and kindness could turn any negative situation positive. Daniel always knew what was important in life-spending time with those he loved and cheering the Crimson Tide and his favorite NASCAR drivers. He will be missed by all that knew him. We know that he has found peace and will be cheering from the heavens this Fall- Roll Tide!

Danny you was more than just a cousin to me at times you was a best friend and at times you was like a brother to me. No matter if we were catching frogs around Smith lake or shooting fireworks across the slue with our dads (by the way that night a rocket came through the screen door at Marks. That was Dad and me) we always had a lot of fun hanging out together. I will always love and miss you buddy.

Dan was a really nice guy no matter what the situation was. Always had a smile on his face and had a cheerful attitude everytime I saw him. He was a great friend who will be dearly missed. Rest easy, friend.

Words can not express how deeply saddened I am about Danny’s passing. We met when I moved in next door to him, in Deerfield Beach. He was not only my next door neighbor, but a dear friend. Southern hospitality all the way!

I became a Realtor during this time and he and I always talked about the housing market and his next move. He and his Dad Les would watch over my place whenever I would travel, and Les would water my garden, and take care of me. We laughed a lot and I knew better… not to bother Danny when The Tide was playing!

He helped me out when I had car trouble, with one of is many car battery chargers. He always spoke highly of his company and the Baccus Global team, as we both share a background in manufacturing/consumer goods.

When Danny was ready to move to a larger home, he asked me to deliver, and I was right there with him. He knew exactly what he wanted, and no more than 15 minutes away from BG! After purchasing his home, doing some remodeling and settling in, we talked about having a BBQ… but we postponed it due to COVID. I tear up thinking about how painful it must be for Les to lose his Son. I pray for Danny and Les every day, and make a point to check on Les, daily. I will always miss you Sugar Bear.
Rest in Peace.

Love, Rosanna Valenzuela.. Friend, Neighbor, & Your Realtor.

I shared a memory of how my brother was very protective of his family but I forgot to tell you how much I loved him and how much I will miss him because no matter what he will always be my baby Brother. I was just so devastated when my dad called me to let me know we had lost My father's best friend, my baby Brother and my daughters uncle who from the moment he picked her up he was hooked on her. He loved Courtney so much and he was so proud of her, and she loved him just as much.
Dan I just want to tell you that we will miss you till the day we leave this earth and can be with you in heaven. You have made so many happy and treated everyone with love and respect. You were an amazing Man.

RIP: Daniel Eugene Portwood

Dan, you were such an amazing person. When I started at Baccus as an intern you were always so kind to me - always making conversations and have many nice things to say. I remember after I graduated from college I visited Baccus and spent time in your office to talk about life - you’ve always put a smile on my face. You were such a kindhearted person and an amazing human being. I wish we had the pool party at your house! You will be missed dearly. May you Rest In Peace Dan. Most sincere condolences to your loved ones and family.

Love, France

Danny, how can I tell you how much you ment to me. You were an amazing brother. I remember when I was 19, I had made one of the worst mistakes in my life, I was dating someone who was hitting me and my mom had found out and while I told my mother about this man and how he said he would kill my mother if I left him my brother was listening, so the next day Dan and I were out goofing off driving around when Dennis starts following us thinking Dan was a guy I had started seeing since we had broke up. Dennis started chasing us and made us pull over so I did because Dan told me too and as soon as we stopped Dan got out of the car and got up in Dennis's face and told him if he ever messed with his family again he would hurt him , anyway Dennis got in his car turned around and left me alone Forever. Danny was just 15 when this happened but it just showed the kind of person he really was, the kind of person who he was he would fight for the people he loved and how much he cared for his family and friends. Danny was one of a kind. Dan was also an amazing uncle to my daughter Courtney and he was the best son to my father,(Lesley Portwood).

What an incredible soul Dan was. He leaves behind so many special memories and a legacy of love and kindness.

We go ALL the way back to Vector, Black and Decker and now Baccus that’s about 14 years of friendship. Dan was the sweetest and kindest. A true southern gentleman to us all. I loved all his sweet southern saying it always put a big smile on my face and sometimes I would laugh out loud.

Dan, no surprise to all, had the biggest personality and,set in his ways which made him so much more FUN to be around. He loved what he loved NASAR, Alabama Crimson Tide and OH he really HATED hot peppers (man those capsaicin they will get ya!).

I have so many amazing memories with Dan but the one that is very special to me is when he told me many years ago I changed his views on how he had seen Muslims in the world. This meant a lot to me to me and my family. He loved and treasured all his friends.

I am going to miss you in the office Dan, no more good mornings, Coffee break chats and man our company gatherings will NEVER be the same without you.

To the family of Dan, may you always find comfort in his memories. I pray that Dan has found his home with God and watch over us all in these difficult times.

With love, Camilla Hussain

My dear sweet Dan. You stole my heart on a Southwest flight, where you sat next to me and cracked jokes in a rough landing to help me relax. You dragged this NY girl to NASCAR races, the dirt track and even got me to camp out in a tent. You sang John Mayer songs to me, and took me to your 10-year reunion. Even though we were long distance and didn’t last, you were the first person to call me when my husband died and drove across Florida to be there for me at his memorial. The BIGGEST heart ever. The world has lost such a good egg, and you clearly touched many people. Rest easily, Spidey.

I met Dan five years ago when I started working with him. From my first day and every day since, Dan put a smile on my face. He was a source of endless laughter, comfort and genuine kindness. He was someone that you knew would do anything for his friends and loved ones. I will miss hearing him tell stories and I will miss our hugs so tight that my feet left the ground. Dan will always have a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to his dad and family. Rest in peace, my Danno.
