Darlene Marie (Decker) Hains (October 28, 1940 – January 16, 2022) age 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Darlene was born in Bellefonte, PA to parents James E. and Marie Decker. In her youth, she spent her summers at Camp Barree in Huntingdon County, PA first as camper and later as camp counselor. She graduated from Lock Haven State College and was a gifted teacher and coach. She met the love of her life, Dale Hains, while they were both teaching at Annville-Cleona High School, and they were united in marriage on August 12, 1967.
Darlene was the first girls’ basketball coach at Latrobe High School and later coached volleyball at Greensburg-Salem High School. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed both playing golf and helping to run the ladies golf league at Red Reef, and always had sports on her TV at home. She was a devoted Penn State fan always cheering for her Nittany Lions.
The loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Linda Jennings. Darlene is survived by her sister, Karen Workman of Bellefonte, PA, two sons, Decker of Kalamazoo, MI and Drew of Deerfield Beach, FL; three lovely granddaughters, Claire, Grace, and Madeline; in-laws Russell and Ann Blew, and Glenn and Barbara Hains; and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends she met along her life journey.
