Dwight was a great, true  and understanding friend when I needed such a friend  the most.   I was amazed at the depth of his talents and intellect.  He was a unique sole, and I am very grateful our life paths merged.  I miss him.  Matt, Dayton, OH

A year ago today one of the brightest lights in our lives went out,and things have never been quite the same.

As a son, a brother, an uncle and as our friend you are missed each an everyday . They say that "time heals all wounds", but our wounds of sadness are still raw and unhealed .

We have thought a millions times of the gal that sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow " at Dwight's memorial service and then we went outside only to see a rainbow in the sky.

That was Dwight saying to us ,I made it,I'm okay and I love you all.  

Long after this quest book is gone.I know that we will continue to honor and remember Dwight on this day. His life meant something different to each of us . For us it was the incredible gift of friendship and love that we will cherish always.

So Dwighty even though you got to the end of the rainbow sooner than any of us would have wanted ,please know that your in our lives every single day. As you dwell within our hearts always.

May you continue to love and quide us from above until we all meet at the  Rainbows End .

Just out of the blue thought of him today, googled his name and was so sad to see that he had passed.

I worked with Dwight, gosh many many years ago.  I remember I has the biggest crush on him and he always made me laugh.  We were good friends during the time we worked together.

I remember he asked me to go to the Delray Beach club with him, I was young at the time and wore shorts and a t-shirt at the time thinking that the club was casual beach attire, my mistake.  

But I remember he went to a piano and played this lovely song on it and we called it a day.

I will always remember how he just made everyone around him smile, how he loved to cook and he was just a very kind person to know.

His memory will live on in all that knew him.

I recently heard of Dwights's untimely passing. I walked into my library where I keep the team photo of the Friends Academy hockey team when we won the Long Island Championchip in 1976. Dwight is positioned to my right with the trophy between us, I have always loved the look on his face in that photo.  Dwight was a tremendous athlete who could master a sport simply by trying. He was a major factor in our 21 victories that season. What a wonderful guy. We will miss you. Rest in peace my friend. Rest in peace.

May God give peace to all of you as you grieve the passing of Dwight. My first memories of Dwighty, is a huge grin on his face, and all of us kids playing kick ball on Durand Place. I remember Dwight's passion and love for cooking, once coming to cook a meal for our family, when he was only a young teen. He turned dreams into realities. Dwight had a smile and spirit that made all feel so at ease and special. I remember when my own Mom passed, and Dwight came over, with a big hug, kind words, and huge platter of food. We will miss him, but, all of us who know the LORD, will see Dwight and all our loved ones in heaven someday. Thanks, Dwight, for the memories.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scholl and Johnson families.  Dwight was always so enjoyable to be around when we saw him with Janet.  Steve always remembers the Giants conversations he had with Dwight.  Love and prayers

My sincere condolences to the Scholl (and Johnson) families.  I have so many great memories of "Uncle Dwight."  His energy always filled the room and there was never a dull moment with Dwight.

Dear Mrs. Scholl,Brooks,Sally & Debbie, Dwight was a very good friend to each person in my entire family growing up and all were so sorry to hear of his passing. While Billy and Brian's friend first, Dwight soon became a great friend to me! His generosity was a constant. He catered my rehearsal dinner before my wedding which he and Kim attended and was again so very generous. He also catered both of my children's Christening's and again would not take a dime from myself or anyone in my family. I had been honored to be in attendance at he and Robin's wedding some years before. Dwight had so many fine qualities and I have been reading about them here on this site for the past several days.I've heard it said that Dwight was a "Good" athlete. Not True. Dwight was a tremendous athlete! He was unbeiveable at everything he got involved with because he had such passion! A couple of years ago I attended the wake of a mutual friend's mother(Dominick Badalato)and Dwight's name came up. Dom(whom has a sizeable ego) told me that when Dwight first came to Schreiber some one came to him and said they thought that Dwight was  possibly faster than he. Dominick quickly dispelled this rumor and immediately chaalenged Dwight to a runoff. Dom confessed to me that night that "It was'nt even close Stephen" Dwight had smoked him! I also remember being in Mr. Mac's French class and Dwight was in Gym class playing softball on the field that backs up to Bogart. On any given day Dwight could hit the school building & sometimes break a window(and of course nobody could say anything) but on this particular pitch he only came up with what most of us would run out as a single.Clearly dissapointed with his hit Dwight took off from the plate and was rounding third when he wiped out causing major road 
rash to his thigh and hip. If he had'nt fallen , he would have scored a homer! He was a great man, a great friend and will be sorely missed by all that knew him! Rest in peace my dear friend!

Sorry to hear about your passing, I think fondly of those days playing basketball with your nephews(Scotty & Eric @ Camp Johnson) or those rough grudge matches of wiffle-ball at John Buck's house or even all of us going too a Yankee game cramming into your brown Monte Carlo.  

All I have is good memories of you and know that you will be missed by many.

To Mrs. Scholl and family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this difficult time.

Many things come to mind when I think of Dwight, but I remember him best for being a loyal friend, for having a great sense of humor, for his social interests, his love of food, for his helping when you really needed it, for being one of the most spontaneous human beings around, and for being one darn-good hockey player.  In fact, Dwight was good at any sport he put his mind into playing.

Dwight, David, Kenny, and I shared the bond of a loyal friendship, rooted in rooting for every New York sports team.  Rangers or Islanders, it didn’t matter.  The loyalty grew with getting to know the personalities of the players.  I chuckle thinking of a more recent conversation I had with Dwight where I expressed that I liked Boston area sports teams, and that I have grown fond of some of the personalities.  I assured Dwight that I still liked the New York teams (especially the Giants).  That did not matter.  Dwight let me have it in disgust.

I remember best how much fun we had laughing at comedians (like George Carlin, Robert Klein, and David Brenner) and trying to validate excerpts of their monologues and reciting their warped views with our day-to-day scenes.  We often didn’t need their material.  If you slipped up, or cracked others up with a tone, expression, or behavior, you became the material.  I provided a lot of material.

Being Sociable defines Dwight.  I wonder if that was why Dwight liked cooking so much.  I remember when it came time to cook you were to stand back, watch, and listen if you were needed, and only if you were needed.  In Dwight’s usual way (like with sports), he got very good at it.  Watching Dwight crack an egg with one hand without getting shells in the yoke was like watching art being born.

Dwight, growing up on Long Island, you were like a brother to David and I, and your family was like our extended family.  We thank you, Dwight, and your family, for welcoming us into your lives and sharing some special times.

I will cherish my memories of you.  Without a doubt, I now know you are in incredible hands and I would not be surprised if you are not at rest, but instead, you are playing again with some sort of stick in hand.

Dear Dwight,
 It has been only a few days sice Kim and I learned of your passing. I miss you already. I keep looking at the caller idea to see your name. We spoke just a few days earlier. We are so glad that you were able to stay for a few days last fall. Whenever you called you were always asking "how are the kids?" I don't think that it has sunk in yet. I wanted to call you on my drive home from work as I often did but remembered I couldn't. We will miss the post cards from all the places you were visitng to let us know what you were up to and to let us know you were thinking of us and checking in. Oh and you always were the first Christmas card to arrive every year. I feel like I have my own personal guardian angel to watch over me and my family. Say hello to your Dad. By the way, could you also say hi to my Dad and let him know we're doing okay. While your at it let George Carlin know I was asking for him.  Boy, I am really going to miss you. I'm going to end this like you ended all our phone calls. "Ok talk to you later love you bud"

To the Scholl family,

I know how much I'm going to miss him so I cannot imagine how much you will. We are sorry for your loss and will be thinking of you and Dwight now and always.

I don't have the words to express how sorry I am to hear of Dwights passing. I worked for him at Port Deli many years ago, we had a great crew. We worked hard but we had fun doing it! Anyone who knew Dwight would tell you he had a special energy about him- if it was ice hockey, cooking or playing the piano, Dwight did it with all his energy and he did it very well!  I regret losing touch with him but I will always smile at the memories of the times we had together.  May he rest in peace in Gods kingdom.

It was early September of 1962 and I remember it like it was yesterday. I had been dropped off early at Manhasset Nursery School in the basement of Christ Church and there was only one other kid that had arrived before me. He was standing in front of an easel with a paint brush and was undoubtedly painting a masterpiece of one sort or another. Whatever it was he was painting, in retrospect I’m sure he had a very (very!) fixed idea of what it was to become. 

The teacher led me over to the easel and said, “This is Dwight.” It was at that moment that this force of nature named Dwight Scholl entered my life.  I had just turned four years old and he was still a couple of months shy of his fourth birthday. 

In the intervening nearly forty-nine years I have collected thousands, literally thousands, of memories that illustrate “This is Dwight.” 

In nursery school, I remember him flexing his biceps to impress the girls (and they were impressed!).

There was this very tall pine tree in the back corner of his back yard. When we were five or six years old, he decided that we should climb to the top of it, so we did. From there, we were literally looking down at the roofs of the surrounding neighborhood. A huge risk when I think about it, but the payoff was an entirely different perspective on the world around us. You never saw ordinary things the same way after seeing them with Dwight.

The adventures continued (and adventures they were – with Dwight I was never entirely sure what would happen next!). Our wonderful bond of friendship endured through grade school and high school and on into adulthood, and endured through all the highs and lows that life has to offer. 

As my family grew, Mary Anne and the kids loved him as I did, and his genuine love and caring for them was cherished by all of us. He relished hearing how the kids were doing and reveled in coming to their games and other activities when he visited. We are all heartbroken, more profoundly than I am capable of expressing, that he has left us way too soon.

To the Scholl Family – I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and Dwight in my prayers and will cherish the memory of him forever. 

To Dwight – Thank you for the laughs, the thrills, the caring, the loyalty, the confidence, the fun, the love, the friendship and the memories. When my phone rings or I check my email, there is a part of me that still expects to see your name on the phone’s caller ID or that there’s an email from you with something funny attached. I expect that some day we will be together again climbing the tallest trees, playing stickball and street hockey and shooting pool, hanging out listening to George Carlin albums, and taking impossibly small motorboats out into the headwaters of the bay in the hope of catching a fish. Until then, peace my brother.

Dear Dwight,
I sit here continuing to review streams of memories in my mind of you and me growing up together. They turn out to be some of my most fun and memorable life experiences.  And while I think of one or two of these pretty regularly, now they all seem to be flowing like water.
While too numerous to review, I need to make sure I mention a few because I know you enjoyed them more than me....There was the counting down of the top songs of the decade listening to the radio while staying over at our house New Year’s Eve.  Hey Jude and Let it Be dominated!  Then there was the memorable football game at 3 AM with Wally in your upstairs hallway. And running around Plandome Country Club pool trying to avoid being included the Sunday Races.  Poor Mr. Finley, we drove him nuts! Then there was listening to all the George Carlin albums, over and over and over. Piano lessons with Mr. Rauch! How about when Sally body-flipped Kyle’s boyfriend in our den. And of course there were the numerous special times together with our parents and family! I could go on and on, as do the memories, with some being not publishable; you know them all! And you remember them better than I do.  Thanks for the memories! 
Thanks for the love and friendship, the fun and the craziness, and for always staying in touch. I will never forget your many impromptu dropping by unexpectedly events when on Long Island. Or the call just a month ago reminiscing about our families...And I will never forget all the old memorable pictures of our parents that you have sent me in e mails.  As we go through life, we have family, friends, and yes, memories. And you are a big part of many of my fondest memories, and I will cherish those forever. Thank you.
Say hi to Wally, Aunt Sue and “Lou Who”, give them all a big hug, and tell them we miss them dearly.

     Farewell to a great friend:
 I will cherish the memories forever of all the crazy and not so crazy times that Dwight and I had along with all our friends growing up on Long Island. My memories of Dwight are of laughter and fun whether we were working, playing or at school. Dwight made me laugh so hard that sometimes it hurt. We were constant companions through high school and college. Spending most of our time, just having a good time. Spending many a day swimming, boating, skiing, golfing and playing around. It was great fun and I wish we could live it all over again. I am glad that I have all of these wonderful memories because just knowing Dwight is not around anymore leaves a terrible void in my life and I’m sure a lot of others. Dwight was a great friend and my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye.

R.I.P. Dwight,  Havnt spoke since the old Port Deli days, but you are in my thoughts alot.  You gave myself and the whole crew alot of fond memories, most of them were in the kitchen of that place (YOU REMEMBER THOSE DAYS).  Thank you for being who you were.  You are a kind, loving, and fun guy to be friends with and I can speak for everyone when I say you will be missed.

Dear Mrs.Scholl and Family,

It is with such profound sadness that I write this to all of you. I just hope I can find the words to convey the depth of our families sorrow and properly honor your son and brother, Dwight .

I had the pleasure of knowing Dwight as I am Janet's sister.

Mrs.Scholl,you raised a very good man, a true gentlemen,and a gentle man .He was such a devoted and loving son . I know you will miss Dwight terribly as he will you. May God bless and guide all of you through these difficult days. He will forever live in your hearts .

He had an incredible zest for life,a boundless energy . Many times we would wake up on Cape Cod to the most delicious aroma of some homeade gourmet breakfast .Not only had he made breakfast he had walked our dog, watered the lawn and flowers, made food for the beach,biked over for the newspaper and fresh bread and then got ready for work . This was all before 7:00 AM. I nicknamed him Dwighty Almighty he would just laugh and say 'Oh this is nothing.'Nothing was ever to much trouble.I was in awe of his culinary talents. I would open the freezer look in see nothing he would open it and a few hours later we were all sitting down to a meal worthy of only the best retaurant.

 Our lives have been enriched by his friendship,his love,his sense of humor,his laughter, his kindness, his caring and moral support.

 When my sister became ill Dwight not only took care of her but also my aging Mother who lived with my sister .That is a true measure of a man. You will never know the peice of mind and comfort that his caring brought our family.My sister calls him her angel. 

I can still see him dancing to one of his favorite songs "Fly me to the moon let me play among the stars ,let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars,In other words take my hand and fill my heart with song and let me sing for evermore.

Dear Scholl Family,

We were very saddened to hear of the unexpected death of Dwight. Our fond memories of Dwight were often spoken about as we often reminise about early days growing up in Port Washington.The great thing about memories are they travel within you forever in your liftime and our memories of Dwight journey in life will always travel in our hearts and be everlasting.

Dwight was truely a great family friend and will be remembered for his great personality and his great devotion and love for his friends and family. He will surely be missed by all who knew him but never forgotten as we must have the faith that he is in a better place with God and other friends that preceded him to the afterlife.

When my daughter told me that you were no longer with us, I cried. You my young man were always such a profound force in the lives of my grandchildren. I have such wonderful memories of you. Dancing at Marlene and Brian's Wedding, the Parties, etc..   My young Brian loved you so much. You left us too soon. I would guess you are sharing a moment with my husband in Heaven.   We will meet again my friend.

R.I.P., Uncle Dwight. You were so much fun, and always really good to Brian and me. Your dives in the pool on Duck Pond, were hilarious. However, not nearly as funny as the time you tried to convince my mom that she should fire the "Tennis Pro", because you taught McEnroe, and were the real "Pro". I can still see mom shaking her head, and rolling her eyes, while trying not to laugh.  I love you, and we will all miss you.

Rest in peace Uncle Dwight.  I will miss you. I always remember the great times we had when I was growing-up in Port. You, my Dad, Uncle Billy and me, at Plandome, and my house. I will never forget you. Love

To the Scholl Family,

There are no words that will appropriately express how deeply saddened my children, and I, were to learn of Dwight's untimely death.

Uncle Dwight, as Brian, Christopher and Alessandra, affectionately called him, was loved by our family. We have many wonderful memories that we will cherish. 

Dwight, will always have a very special place in the heart's of the Sager family, and he will never be forgotten.  

Our prayers are with Dwight, and the Scholl family. May the memory of his great smile, and warm hugs, bring you comfort in the dark days ahead without him.  God bless all of you, and may prepetual light shine upon the soul of our lost friend.

May the Holy Spirit offer your family the strength to manage through this time of deep sadness and mourning.   I consider myself so fortunate to have been his friend and shared so many special times together. 

These wonderful memories, which I know Dwight treasured as well, have been constantly streaming through my mind over the past few days. And I will so miss the special conversations we had and the photo e-mails Dwight would send me, reflecting a variety of activities shared by the Scholl and Gordon families. 

While heartbroken, I find some solace in the many wonderful memories I have and hold dear.   May our prayers help to bring you strength and our love and friendship help bring some comfort to the entire Scholl family.
