Edna J. (Barry) Hankey, 94, of Boca Raton, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Julia M. and James A. Barry on November 24, 1925 in Boston, MA and resided there for 27 years before moving to Lincoln, MA where she and her husband raised their family. While living in Lincoln, she was an active member in her community and an avid bridge player. Edna, a true entrepreneur, opened her own real estate brokerage which several years later merged with Hunneman Better Homes and Gardens where she was made the first female Vice President in the company nationwide. Nothing was more important to her than family, and her beach house on the South Shore of Massachusetts in Marshfield was the setting for many family gatherings and over 35 years of wonderful memories. In 1985, she retired and moved to Boca Raton, FL with her devoted husband of 47 years, Francis Weston Hankey, who predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by her four children; daughters Janet (Richard) Ward of Palm Coast, FL and Brooke (Eric) Moler of Roswell, GA and sons William (Joyce) Hankey of Andover, MA and Thomas (Meghan) Hankey of Boca Raton, FL; granddaughters Wendy(Gary) Burch, Brooke Ward, Lindsay (Brent) Lanier, Lauren Hankey, Emily Hankey and Audra Hankey; grandsons William (Veronica) Hankey, Nicholas (Paige) Hankey, Bradford (Rachel) Dixon, and Thomas Hankey; great-granddaughters Gillian Burch, Katherine Burch, Caroline Lanier; and great-grandsons Robert Hankey, Christopher Hankey and Leighton Lanier. Due to the current unusual environment, arrangements will be private; however, the family welcomes you to share any thoughts or memories on the Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home of Boca Raton’s website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edna’s memory to Trustbridgefoundation.org

The Hankey’s summer home in Brant Rock was next door to my in-laws the dixon’s. We got to know them very well and their family. We were moving back to the Boston area from outside of the state and wanted to buy a fixer upper. Edna had just started as an agent and found a perfect one in Concord. We were a young family just starting out and couldn’t afford much. The house she found fit perfectly into our plans.. What really helped was that she refused to take a commission! So this was a great start to moving up to a series of purchases and building equity. We’ll never forget her kindness and generosity! Our family can only have wonderful memories of the Hankey family and our friendship.
God Bless

Edna was a wonderful woman. Spending lots of time in Hyannis and in FL with my mom, after the passing of both spouses, she and my mom were close friends. On my many trips to FL, she always welcomed me and inquired as to what the weather was in MA and was always willing to fill me in on the latest movies she had seen. A fixture at my sister’s home, she always added conversation and laughter to the holiday meals. She will be sadly missed by everyone. God bless.

Brooke,
Even though I had only met your mom on a few occasions, I can still remember her wonderful personality and the love and praises she had for you and your family. She lived life to the fullest and created a legacy that both you and Lindsay are following. What a blessing to be able to have such a dedicated business woman as a mother and grandmother! We wish your family comfort and peace knowing she lived to 94 years old, accomplished so much, and has gone on to Rest In Peace and comfort in our Lords arms. There will be no regrets, just happy memories!

Thank you to Edna for being such a great niece & friend to my Mom
Rita McCarthy Bartlett. Our families will always be intertwined because of
JP and the Fisher family. I’ll always remember their 1st home on Mobile St
near the West Roxbury VA then Lincoln, Ma. Also add in Brant Rock where she vacationed with her Frank along with 4 beautiful children. Janet, Bill,
Brooke and Tom.
Her last years were happily spent in Boca living near Tom & Meghan along with their 4 children, Lauren, Emily , Tommy & Audra, She had a great life.
Love from Celli Family

Edna was my Mother-in-law for approximately thirty years. She was a kind and loving woman who loved her family with all her heart. Some of favorite memories of Edna were at the beach in Marshfield. God rest her soul.
