Betty was born on June 24, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to Anthony and Sabina Schiro. She grew up in Flatbush with her four sisters, Catherine, Victoria, Deborah, and Maryann, and she graduated from St. Edmund Preparatory High School in 1971. Betty was a devout Catholic and was devoted to praying the Rosary. She loved knitting blankets for her friends and their children. She spent time attending her grandson Gabriel’s soccer games and karate practices. She loved playing games on her tablet and giving her German Shepard Lolita (Lola Gee) lots of scratches behind the ear. In her last years, she really enjoyed watching HGTV, murder mysteries on Investigation Discovery, and riling herself up watching Gutfeld and “The Five” on Fox News. Betty was a patriot, loved Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and America; according to her Facebook page, she considered herself “irredeemable and deplorable and proud of it.”
Betty continued as Director of Medical Billing with Elite Billing, working from home until couldn’t anymore. She worked hard her entire life, giving everything to ensure her kids were successful in life, and she did it alone with almost no help.
No one could have fought this fight harder than Betty. She was a strong, powerful woman of heart and soul, loved by her family, friends, co-workers, and by so many more who knew of her, but who she never met. She also loved tremendously, especially her sons Michael and Robert, her daughter Monique, son-in-law Nelson, her grandnephew Jordan, and six-year-old grandson Gabriel. At the end, she held on long enough to verbalize “I love you Gabriel” and then she departed, peacefully, on her terms. She lived her life the way she wanted to. What an amazing life it was. And what an immeasurable legacy she left for us.
