To the entire McCormack Family,

Deeply saddened... my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  I feel like I lost my own. I'll remember your father's genuineness the most. It was apparent in his hand shake. It was never just a hand shake although each started that way until he would wrap his free arm around you to grab the back of your neck, lean in, and share with you what was always a kind word or something of encouragement - always. He was one of the good guys, a great father, and a dear friend to myself and the Rizzo's.

     I feel a real honor in being the Priest who celebrated the last Mass that Gene attended while he was on vacation on the "Outer Banks" of North Carolina. 
     When I met Gene's family at his Prayer Service, I was informed that Gene continued his mother's practice of attending daily Mass.  He began this practice when his mother died in 1984.
     Indeed, Gene was a Devout Catholic!  May he rest in peace!

Coach Mac and Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Mac was a loving, caring, and humble man and will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew him. I know he will always be rooting for the Owls at every game as if he never left.

All of us share in this tremendous loss.  Gene was a good storyteller and a person who valued family and friends above all else.  He was also a decent liar, which I appreciated when he told others about my alledged athletic prowess back in the day.  I always appreciated him being my coach as a kid and trying to help me get better no matter how much I struck out and missed the cutoff man.
What a great guy and I can't tell you how much we will all miss him.  He may be gone but never forgotten.  God bless you Gene!

Just adored my Uncle Gene.  His family always came first - raised 4 wonderful children, adored his wife, Brenda and that feeling was quite obviously, very mutual.  He was the life of every party and could keep you laughing for days!!  I will miss him dearly.

Mr. McCormack was a good egg and a fine gentleman.  He and his wife were very warm and accepting of me when I became good friends and roommates with Fudge in college.   I respected him greatly for his devotion to his family, his Irish ancestry and his Catholic faith.  He also looked sharp in the old-school, BIKE coaches shorts he wore to the FSU games - not everyone could pull off that look, but he could.  I know his family will miss him but he is in a better place - they will definitely have a 'back-up' cooler of cold beers in heaven for Mr. McCormack.  God bless and well wishes to Mrs. McCormack, Fudge and extended family.

Gene was an all-around terrific guy.  He was generous with his time and kind to others.  He was great fun at any party and he certainly loved his family.  Most importantly, he was a true friend.  I will miss him tremendously.

I met Gene in 1984 while  i was at Chevrolet  and  we  had  a  special bond for 30 plus  years continuing to my current days at Toyota. His interests  and  loves were not complicated but  rather  easy . 1St and  foremost was  his  wife and  his family he never stopped talking about them 2nd might have been the  Dodgers or  Notre Dame (we logged hundreds of hours of phone calls through our  friendship on sports) but to  talk to  him about  F.A.U. baseball and his  son coach  John  you would have though Gene  was a coach or advanced scout. Those who knew him well  knew he was a devout church goer , a family  guy  a  volunteer at the voting polls or the church soup kitchen. One of a kind guy that touched many hearts . Rest well old pal  you left your  mark while you were here.
