November 18, 1919 – April 23, 2019
Eva Gonzalez Cayere, 99 years old, died peacefully at her residence in Boca Raton, FL on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Louis Cayere. Eva spent most of her life in her beloved Puerto Rico, but she also resided in Washington, D.C., Miami, and San Juan where she and Louis raised their family. Later, she and Louis lived in California and Hollywood, FL. As a top-notch sales associate and successful businesswoman during a time when many women were not in the workforce, Eva was the first woman to sell furniture and appliances for Sears and Roebuck. She retired from Sears after 25 years of service. She was also an entrepreneur who sold jewelry from Joyeria Pascual to many customers around the island. Eva was a faithful parishioner of Iglesia Nuestra Senora Catholic Church. She was a member of and served as president of the Club Civico De Damas de Puerto Rico, organizing numerous activities to assist charitable groups. Being a person who truly enjoyed socializing with and helping others, Eva made many lasting friendships in her life. Her sparkling personality, loving heart, kindness and generosity, emotional strength, and dependable nature endeared her to all who knew her. With Louis, Eva enjoyed traveling to Europe, especially to France, and they even camped across America at one time! She was greatly adored by her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and enjoyed spending time with. Survivors include her daughter, Nadine Kreidich; two sons, Louis (Jan) Cayere, and Leslie Cayere; eight grandchildren, Grisselle (Frank) Cayere, Valerie (Jamey) Barnes, Melanie (Sue) Kreidich, Cybelle (Eddie) Castillo, Alex Staranowicz, Jacqueline Phillips, Tomas (Jessica) Cayere, and Alicia Patron; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the nurses, aides and other medical personnel who gave Eva such loving care during these last years of her life.
Donations in her honor can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org/donate.
A memorial service and celebration of life is planned for early June at the Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home.

My favorite memory of her...When I was growing up, I would spend my summers in Puerto Rico, on the way home from the beach, we would stop at Sbarro’s pizza and sometimes get meringue at the local bakery. After that, we would sit on the porch to play Chinese checkers. I always had difficulty sitting still, so she would then tell me to go help Abuelo fix the latest thing in the house. He taught me how to change a door lock, paint, put together things that don’t really need to be fixed, and how to spend too much time looking for tools. After fiddling with many “House projects” my Abuela would then call us over to have fried thin steak, white rice, and tostones.
