Evelyn (Zarna) Lefes, 95, fell asleep in the Lord during Orthodox Bright Week on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023. She was the wife of the late George S. Lefes. Evelyn was born in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Matthew Zarna and Helen (Pamfilis) Zarna. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie & Chrissa (John); her granddaughters, Theodora (Wael), Georgia (Claire) & Dena; and her great grandson, Basil. She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Anastasia Vodantis, Michael Zarna, and Kathryn Mathews.
Evelyn met her husband at an Ikarian Convention in 1951. Following the convention, George arrived at Evelyn’s door in Birmingham, Alabama, in his Army uniform and the rest was history. They got married the following year and raised their daughters in New York. Evelyn took great pride in her work at the White Plains courthouse. Following retirement, they moved to Florida. Evelyn loved to walk (she went to the gym 5 days a week until age 90), entertaining, visiting the casino, and playing bingo. Evelyn embraced life fully, always thankful, and with a smile on her face. She loved her family with all her heart, and she was loved by all who met her.
A visitation for Evelyn Lefes will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church (2100 Yamato Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33431), followed by a funeral service from 10:00 to 11:00a.m. Interment will then follow from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Boca Raton Mausoleum (451 SW 4th Ave, Boca Raton, FL 33432).
