Franz Michael Stenglein, Sr. of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on December 22, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born December 6, 1937, in Marquette, Michigan, the son of Francis and Winfred Stenglein. Mike is survived by his wife Judith Ann Stenglein, his children Steven Michael Stenglein (Ing Marie) of Parkland, FL; Michelle Jean Rubin (Robert) of Boca Raton, FL; Thomas Joseph Stenglein of Pompano Beach, FL; and Franz Michael Stenglein, Jr. (Dulce) of Austin, TX; and his grandchildren Shari Stenglein and Samantha Eckhart (John) of New York, NY; Philip Jimenez of London, England; Scott Rubin and Matthew Rubin of Boca Raton, FL; Andrew Rubin of Denver, CO; Alison Stenglein and Pamela Garcia of Pompano Beach, FL; Jessica Stenglein (Philip) of Houston, TX; and Jack Stenglein of Austin, TX; and sister Gretchen Espiritu of Parkland, FL.
Mike met Judy when he was 18 years old. They dated for two years and were married in 1958 in Marquette, MI. Mike was in the US Navy from 1956 to 1960, where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After having served in various locations around the country and Canada, including having been part of an in-flight airplane crew, he was honorably discharged in October 1960. Mike spent another two years serving in the reserves. He often fondly recalled his days in the service and was fiercely proud of having served his country. In 1971, Mike moved his family to Fort Lauderdale, FL where he and his wife of 64 years raised their four children.
He had several hobbies that brought him joy, including for many years traveling the country with Judy in their RV after he retired from his position with Curtis 1000. During those trips, they spent several months visiting the largest cities and even more small towns. He would love to tell stories of what they saw along the way and who they met at different RV resorts. He was a salesman during his career and used those same skills to strike up conversations with strangers during their trips or at the local Home Depot. He was also an avid hunter, target shooter, and exotic gun collector. He was also very much a handyman, a skill he passed down to his three sons.
A service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 10:00 am at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 10300 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL 33498 followed by a private family service at Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in North Lauderdale, FL.
