Nov 28, 1924 – Nov 25, 2018
George Ling, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather died on Nov 25, 2018.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Teresa; children Linda (deceased), Lynette, Anthony, Alan and Chun Bong. Grandchildren Chris, Jason, Danielle, Kimberley, Marcus, Alana, Emily, Zacharie, Jonathan and Kristen; great grandchildren Gabrielle, Adrianne, Willa and Maximillian. He was predeceased in death by his first wife of 35 years, Rita (Moyie).
George’s journey began as a teenager in the 1930’s when he migrated from China to Trinidad to seek a better life. There were many obstacles stacked against him; he had no family or friends in this new country, he did not speak English and had to quickly adapt to a totally different culture. Those early days were extremely tough and challenging. Living on his own from a very young age, with almost no formal education and despite very limited money and possessions, George was able to overcome these insurmountable odds to not only persevere but build a very successful career.
He married his first love Rita in 1947. His first major job was managing the restaurant at Piarco International Airport. One of his dreams was to own his own business and he started modestly with a small shop in Guayaguayare, a small rural town on the southeast area of Trinidad. From there he operated several businesses until he started Ling’s Restaurant and Catering service in the capital, Port Of Spain. George and Rita grew this business to one of the most popular and respected catering services in the country. Some of their customers included the Prime Minister, Trinidad Fire Service Department as well as other prominent members of both the government and private industry. He retired from the business shortly after Rita’s death in 1982.
Following his retirement, he moved to North Miami Beach where he later met the second love of his life Teresa and married in 1986. They later settled in Boca Raton. Their son Chun Bong was born in 1988.
He was an automobile enthusiast and owned several sports cars, convertibles and luxury sedans.
Despite his successful career and accomplishments what he most enjoyed were the simple things in life, like spending time with and visiting his family whenever he could. He will be greatly missed.
