

PAVEL, George Nicolae, 91, of Delray Beach, formerly of Rochester, Michigan passed away peacefully June 21, 2010. Beloved husband of Florence for 64 years. Cherished father of Suzette (Bill), Rhonda, and the late Daniel Nicolae. Loving grandfather of Timothy, Kevin, Amy, and Natalie. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was attending Wayne State University in Detroit when he was drafted. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corp (Air Force) from 1941 to 1945 and was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal World War II, and the Good Conduct Medal. During his service he was also credited for designing an airfield. Upon discharge he worked in defense for the U.S. Government where he invented an electronic board that would detect malfunctions when attached to aircraft instrument panels. Instead of waiting for a patent he decided to let the government utilize his invention in order to save lives. He continued his civilian career at the U. S. Army Tank Automotive Command in Warren, MI for many decades and eventually retired to Florida. George was a first generation born American, born to Romanian immigrant parents and given the gift of Orthodox Christianity. He was a proud member of St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Boca Raton. George loved his church, country and his family unconditionally and enjoyed the many friendships he made during his extraordinary journey through this life. May God our Father grant him peace and eternal life. Visitation will take place at Kraeer/Babione Funeral Home 1353 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton on Thursday June 24th 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm with the Trisagion Service at 7 pm. The Funeral will take place on Friday June 25th, 2010 at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church at 10 am with entombment following at the Boca Raton Cemetery.
