Gilbert (“Gil”) Joseph Villeneuve passed away on August 6, 2020, at the age of 88 years old. Gil will be fondly remembered as a family man who was always happy and smiling, no matter what challenges came his way. He loved to talk and could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether he was sitting at the picnic table at Deerfield Beach or standing in the checkout line at the warehouse club.
Gil was born on May 1, 1932 in Tarrytown, New York. He grew up there with his three brothers, studied landscape architecture, and joined the United States Navy in 1951, where he served during the Korean War. Gil later formed his own business - Gil’s Catering - serving food to construction sites and businesses in southern Florida for many years.
Gil married Faye Sunshine in 1961 and had four children - Suzanne, Kenneth, Jeffrey and Denise. Gil is survived by Faye, his children, five grandchildren, and three brothers.
Gil will be greatly missed, and the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made as donations in his name to the National Honor Flight Network, which transports America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served for our country. Gil participated in one of these trips in 2018, and it was one of the thrills of his later years.
Gil’s funeral service will be live-streamed on the Babione Funeral Home Facebook page at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, August 13: (Type the following into the search bar)
