Joe was born December 19, 1940 in Sora, Italy to Arturo and Angela Gismondi. He came to New York at age 19 to begin a decades-long career as a master chef and restaurant owner. His family and career took him to Florida in 1981, where he was a pioneer in helping to transform the South Florida dining scene.
A dedicated father and an instructive grandfather, Joe enjoyed nothing more than the company of his family, a good cigar, and a John Wayne movie. His interests also took him to the sea as both an avid fisherman and in the boating business. A man of many talents and an educator by nature, Joe was always eager to share what he learned with family and friends alike.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Gabriella Gismondi, his three children Cinzia, Angela and Arturo, and his six grandchildren Claudio, Gabriel, Timothy, Isabella, Arianna and Liliana. He is also survived by his brother Vincent, his sister-in-law Rosaria, and their children Elisa Gismondi-Tufano, Giulia Gismondi-Merklein, Claudia Palmieri, Roberta Gisonda, and Sabrina Distelhurst.
A memorial service to honor Joe will be held on Sunday, August 19th at Babione Kraer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Federal Hwy. in Boca Raton. The viewing will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by a prayer service.
