Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Washington D.C.
One day after his 17th birthday in 1963 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he proudly served until being honorably discharged in 1969. He was among the first US soldiers to participate in combat operations in the Vietnam War in 1965.
He moved to South Florida in 1969 and became a commercial pilot and successful businessman. In 1976 he founded Commercial Aviation Enterprises, Inc. a FAA Authorized FAR Part 135 Air Charter & Air-Ambulance Company based at Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport. During his 37 years as Owner and Chief Pilot he owned and operated a total of 69 different fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters while logging over 20,000 hours of worldwide flight experience.
He enjoyed playing competitive semi-pro baseball into his late 60’s. He pitched in over 2,000 games on the baseball club he managed and sponsored, the Commercial Aviation Mudcats.
He is survived by his three children; daughters, Sophia Maestrales and Nika Maestrales Pico; son, Peter Maestrales; and four grandchildren; Rosalina, Gus, Sofia, and Sara.
He devoted his entire life to his kids. Being a great Father is what defined him.
He touched our hearts with his spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be held on July 15, 2021 at 4-8pm at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, Florida.
