Born in Altamira (Huila), Colombia, she was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Miguel and Leonor (Cuervo) Diaz. She was raised in Altamira and moved to Bogota where she married the love of her life, Asensio on March 19, 1965. The happy couple immigrated to New York City in 1966 and became proud citizens of the United States in 1982.
While raising her 4 sons, she worked for over 15 yrs as an analyst at Statistical Research, Inc in Westfield, NJ but was ALWAYS around to pick her kids up after school when they were done with soccer or wrestling practices and matches, Student Council meetings or any other of the myriad of activities in which they were involved.
After relocating to Florida in 1991, Ines spent the next 30 yrs in Saga Bay, Boca Raton and Lake Worth.
"Inesita", as she was lovingly referred to by her family and friends enjoyed volunteering at her church, making arts & crafts, laughing, dancing, playing cards with her grandchildren and spending time with her husband, sisters, children and grandchildren.
She always put her family’s needs ahead of her own and her home was always open to visiting family and friends from all over the world. Inesita never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion and she especially loved Christmas-time. Every year, the family would gather round the living room and pray the Christmas Novena, followed by games, singing and dancing which were always encouraged and rewarded by loving hugs and kisses.
Ines is survived by her husband of 57 years, Asensio, her 4 loving sons, Agustin and his partner Lori Corso of Enfield, CT, Jose and his wife Hilary Hafeken of Morrisville, NC, Miguel of Lake Worth, FL, Rafael and his wife Dana of Keansburg, NJ as well as her two dear sisters Luz Andrade of Phoenix, AZ and Elena Gutierrez of Boca Raton, FL. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren: Stefan, Alexis, Ryan, Reed, Eric, Victoria, Joshua, Kyle, Nicole, Shayna and Jason.
We will miss her company, counsel, her patience and ability to listen, her laugh and beautiful smile and the warmth and love of her eyes.
A visitation for Ines will be held on Thursday, August 18th from 4pm - 8pm at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, Florida. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19th from 11am - 12pm at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, Florida.
