With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of JoAnn Meder of Boca Raton, FL, on March 8, 2024, a beacon of light and love whose journey began in Binghamton, NY, on December 20, 1943. Born to Alonzo and Alta Knight, JoAnn's early years in the Binghamton area laid the foundation for the incredible kindness she would carry throughout life. Her journey led her through the picturesque streets of Smoke Rise, NJ, to the sun-kissed shores of Boca Raton, FL, in her vibrant teenage years, a place she cherished and called home for the rest of her life.
JoAnn was a force of nature, a pillar of strength, independence, and unwavering love. Her radiant smile and infectious laughter lit up every room, and her sense of humor brought joy to all. An avid lover of nature, JoAnn found solace in the embrace of her gardens, the glow of sunrise, and the tranquility of the outdoors. Her adventurous spirit was reflected in her travels, but it was the quaint cottage at Upper Lake that held a special place in her heart, hosting countless cherished moments with family.
Her commitment to the community shone brightly through her active involvement in the Boca Raton Garden Club, where she cultivated both beauty and friendships. JoAnn's enthusiasm for sports knew no bounds, with her unwavering support for the Dolphins and Marlins emblematic of her passionate spirit.
The true cornerstone of JoAnn's life was her family. She was a beacon of maternal love to her children, Edward R. Meder, Jr. (wife, Elizabeth), Richard K. Meder (wife, Alice), and Nicole J. Mendenhall (husband, Justin), and a loving grandmother to Brianna, Aidan, Caitlin, Ashley, and Cameron. Her legacy of love, compassion, and laughter will live on through them and the countless lives she touched.
JoAnn's departure reunites her with her husband, Edward R. Meder, Sr., and her brother, William L. Knight, in eternal peace. She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit, love, and laughter will forever illuminate the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
To honor JoAnn's compassionate and caring nature, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Boca Raton Humane Society or Helping Hands of Boca Raton, causes close to her heart.
As we bid farewell to JoAnn, we take solace in knowing that her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved her. Rest in peace, dear JoAnn. Your legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever inspire us.
