From very early on - you always made me feel like a deeply embedded part of the family and were consistently present and connected. I remember all the dinners (even before Megan moved back from DC) and being introduced around Boulder, and it meant so much to me as a recent transplant. You built such a strong and wide web of love and support and I was always honored to be a part of it. Will be missing you every day

Met John in Boulder, 71', while living on Grandview, right below the Hill. He would show up at our Friday evening BBQ's, regularly, every weekend. We nicknamed him "Orph", for any burger left on the platter, an "orphan burger" ended up with John. We grew to love John, he was one of us. We were surfers, and water people from Hawaii and he was a mountain man, a skier, and climber...all athletes and highly motivated. Orph made several trips to Hawaii and visited, once at my parents beach house in Kailua, and to Maui for my daughter's wedding recently. We caught up on our lives, full as you'd  expect....our hair which used to be shoulder length and longer, now, cropped and white...Time obviously flying by at a horrendous speed. The "brothers" were reunited as a whole, never thinking it would be the last. I know in his last days John knew what a amazing time he had on earth, and would be welcomed in the Flatirons in heaven. Brother Vince

John was such a sweet guy. I first met him three years ago in Hope Town, Bahamas. He made an Abaco dingy from wood with the help of a local master.  John was generous with his engineering experience and guidance.  A long list of people and structures have his imprint.  And beyond all that, he was fun to just sit with and chat.  He is missed already.  My condolences to Molly and his great kids and grand kids.

It’s difficult for me to imagine a world without John in it-from the moment I met him, he seemed permanent and stable. He and his partners at Gebau took a chance on me, a young would-be engineer fresh out of school, and in many ways, gave me the life I have now with their training, support, and guidance. Had I not known John, I’d be a wholly different person, and there’s almost no day that goes by without here I don’t use something he taught me and think of him. The debt I owe him is enormous and permanent. I will miss him very much.
