
John Fred Kilbourne, age 89, of Delay Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 24. 2026. Born in Tennessee, John carried his Southern roots with him throughout his life, valuing faith, family, and hard work above all else.
John was married to his beloved first wife, Zola Kilbourne, who preceded him in death. He later married Bernice Kilbourne of Elizabethton, Tennessee. Though they later divorced, they remained good friends and shared a daughter, Jennifer Kilbourne. Throughout his life, John remained devoted to his family and the values he instilled in his children.
For 54 years, John proudly called Delray Beach home. He became a well-known and respected member of the community, forming lasting friendships and leaving a positive mark on those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joey Overlay, who remained forever in his heart.
John is survived by his children:
• Mark Kilbourne of Boynton Beach, Florida
• Gail Stallard Kilbourne of Jonesborough, Tennessee
• Jennifer Kilbourne of Elizabethton, Tennessee
• Lisa Mazzatta of Old Saybrook, Connecticut
• Marsha Dolen of Delray Beach, Florida
• Mike Kilbourne of Delray Beach, Florida
He is also survived by his brother, Nick Kilbourne of Jonesborough, Tennessee, and by Bernice Kilbourne of Elizabethton, Tennessee.
John was a proud grandfather to Logan, Lindsey, Jordan, Bailey, Mike, Laurel, Gina, Cali, Meredith, Kyra, and Katie, and a cherished great-grandfather to Izzy, Etta, June, Jolie, Noah, and Conway.
He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Darrell Godsey of Gray, Tennessee, whom he met at the age of six - a friendship that spanned more than eight decades and stood as a testament to loyalty and enduring connection.
John's nieces and nephews who survive him include Donna, Renee, Brett, Preston, Robin, and Rusty.
The family would like to thank Maria and Pia for their loving care over the last few years; their compassion, dedication, and love brought John comfort and joy in his final days
A graveside service will be held this summer at East Lawn Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee. The family will announce the date at a later time.
