John T. Mulhall, Jr. of Boca Raton went to be with God in peace, and without pain or fear, on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. He was 82 years old. John was born in Pittston, PA on July 7, 1938. He was the son of the late John T. Mulhall and the late Catherine (née Golden) Mulhall. He graduated from West Pittston High School in 1956 and from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1960. Shortly after graduating from Wilkes, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Felice, on August 27, 1960. The newlyweds moved to Philadelphia so that John could attend the Fels Institute for Government Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. John secured employment with IBM Corporation shortly thereafter. Some of John’s fondest memories are from those early days toting portable electric typewriters around his North Philadelphia territory. He was to remain with the company for 33 years. First in sales in Philadelphia, then serving in a variety of management capacities while in Washington, DC from 1965 to 1971, most notably as a manager of Office Products Division employees throughout Western Europe, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, and the Philippines. From 1971 to 1983, he served as Branch Manager of the Office Products Division in Rochester, NY, and then from 1983 to 1993 as a Senior Software Marketing Strategist where he played an integral role in the oversight of the assembly and construction of IBM's Software Development Lab in Boca Raton, FL. After retiring from IBM in 1993, he served as a consultant for Computer Science Corporation until his final retirement in 1996.
A devoted and loving father, John’s three children were born while he and Jean were living in Philadelphia but were raised and educated first in suburban Maryland and then in Fairport, NY. John’s best attributes were perhaps the example he set for others and his readiness to respond to any need, whether it was as a founder of Cub Scout Pack 1333 in Montgomery County, Maryland or of the Fairport High School Swimming Booster Club, or, with Jean for over 25 years, as a Marriage Preparation Course counselor for soon-to-be-wed couples in Boca Raton. He was a devout Catholic, and a man of honor and integrity. John loved to play golf and felt blessed to be able to do so year-round in South Florida. Over the years, he loved spending time with his family on annual vacations in Bethany Beach, DE, Myrtle Beach, SC and Hilton Head, SC. Although separated by time and distance, he remained in contact with friends from high school, college and his days in upstate New York.
John is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Jean F. Mulhall, after 60 years of marriage and 67 Valentine’s Days together. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John T. Mulhall III and Lisa N. Mulhall of Boca Raton, and their children, Megan E. Mulhall, John T. Mulhall IV and Michael J. Mulhall; his son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. Mulhall and April F. Mulhall of Boca Raton, and their son, Matthew F. Mulhall; and his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jean Stevens and Martin J. Stevens of Nashville, TN, and their children, Patrick J. Stevens and Grace E. Stevens; his sister, Margaret M. Mulhall of Washington, DC; and his sister, Catherine M. Lynch of Dunnellon, FL, and her children, Catherine A. Daley and J. Michael Daley. John is also survived by Jean’s many cousins and their families with whom he spent many wonderful times over the years.
