Grandpa Is

Grandpa is khaki pants and a Ralph Lauren zip up.
A proud resident of Apartment K 108,
a friend of every guard at the gate.
a never missed Sunday service.
an unwavering faith in God.
a glass of water no ice.
a 5 am visit to the gym.
a timely birthday card signed Love, Grandpa.
a stick shift ride to school.
a quiet smile when one of his grandson’s makes an inappropriate joke.
an unrelenting athlete pushing a walker across the entire soccer field.
the proudest spectator of his son’s backyard pizzeria.
an excited hello for his littlest grandchildren.
the pride we feel knowing our son has the name of such a good a man.
stories of Italian cookies, white décor and red wine with dinner.
a beautiful lobby painting dedicated to his wife.
the tears in my husband’s eyes because of all the wonderful things his Grandpa is.
