January 15, 1932 – September 16, 2023
Pura Solís Del Valle, 91, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, September 16, 2023 in Boca Raton, Florida.
She was born in Havana, Cuba, on January 15, 1932 to Purificación Solís y Hoyo and Laureano Solís y Suárez. A faithful adherent of the Sacred Heart, she graduated from the Colegio del Sagrado Corazón in Havana in 1950.
In 1957 she married Dr. Fernando Del Valle to whom she was deeply devoted. She and Fernando, with their first two children, Fernando and José, immigrated to the United States in 1962, first residing in Columbia, Missouri. Their daughter Cristina was born soon after. The family spent many happy years in Chesterfield, Missouri, and after Fernando’s retirement, they relocated to Margate, Florida. Pura was predeceased by her parents, her brother Laureano Solís, and in 2000 by her husband Fernando.
Pura was a woman of deep faith and religious devotion. Her Catholic faith and family were everything to her. Curious and inquisitive throughout her life, she was a prolific reader. She took great pride in her homes and enjoyed the arts and keeping up with extended family and friends.
She was a strong woman of great determination, purpose, and abiding love. She will be greatly missed by her three children Fernando (Noelia Elizondo) of Harlingen, Texas, Jose (Catherine Silks) of Rockville, Rhode Island, and Cristina (James Poma) of New York, New York. She leaves behind her grandchildren Emma Del Valle, Anna Del Valle, Miranda Del Valle, Sarita Del Valle, James Poma, and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many friends at her community, Edgewater at Boca Pointe, in Boca Raton.
The family wishes to thank Lourdes Solís Puñal, who was a blessing and comfort during her many visits in later years. The family finds solace in knowing Pura has been reunited with her beloved husband.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, Florida, followed by interment at Flagler Memorial Park in Miami.
