
Dick graduated from Central Catholic High School (St. Thomas Aquinas) in 1958. He received his Bachelor’s degree from St. Bernard Abbey, Cullman, Alabama. He received a Master’s Degree and Doctorate of Education from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. He began his long teaching career in New York City in 1963. He began teaching for the Palm Beach County School District in 1965 at J.C. Mitchell Elementary. He moved on to Boca Raton Middle School where he taught until his retirement in 2002.
In 1978, Dick became interested in teaching CPR and first aid and became a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. In 1982, he became a Paramedic and volunteered with the Greenacres Fire Department and SAVES Ambulance, West Palm Beach. In 1990, he received an award from the American Heart Association for teaching CPR to over 1,000 people.
Dick is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Gaynell, his daughter, Kathleen Benoit Matias, and his granddaughter, Jennifer Matias. He is survived by two brothers, Robert Benoit (Carolyn) and Thomas Benoit (Carol), as well as 2 nieces and 5 nephews.
