Born December 27, 1935. After a long illness, Sharon Schantz Kohn passed away peacefully the morning of December 2. Her husband, Gilbert, and daughters, Beth and Kathy, were with her, and she died knowing that she was encircled by her loving family. Born in Detroit, Sharon fulfilled her childhood dream to graduate from the University of Michigan. For the rest of her life, Michigan football games were a passion, and she watched and attended them- attired head-to-toe in maize and blue- with a religious fervor that often frightened the uninitiated. If you heard a bloodcurdling yell on a game day, you knew that Michigan had scored a touchdown. Sharon’s other passion was working for the Girl Scouts, and she dedicated over 40 years in service to the organization as a troop leader, trainer and fundraiser. She steadfastly believed that scouting fostered confidence and independence in girls and gave them character-building skills that would last a lifetime. A viewing will take place on Wednesday, December 5 from 6-8pm at the Babione Funeral Home, 1100 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, December 6 at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, 100 Northeast Mizner Boulevard in Boca Raton. Burial will be in Michigan on Saturday, December 8. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in Sharon’s memory to the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, 1224 West Indiantown Rd, Jupiter, FL 33458.
