Dr. Sheldon Dobkin – Boca Raton, Florida.
Sheldon Dobkin, age 84, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on Tuesday, July 17th after a battle with cancer. Sheldon was born November 12, 1933 in the Bronx, NY. He was the son of the late Hyman Dobkin and the late Belle Dobkin. He is preceded in death by his son Ross and his wife, Audrey.
Sheldon was a retired marine biologist and professor. In 1964, he joined the original faculty of Florida Atlantic University, where he spent most of his career. Sheldon also served a tour in the US Army and was stationed in Georgia. He was a kind, calm and loving man who loved to be the life of the party and had a great sense of humor.
During Sheldon’s retirement years, prior to his illness, he and Audrey loved to travel and volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. After Audrey’s passing in 2012, Sheldon moved back to Boca Raton and enjoyed living the rest of his life close to his son Randy, his daughter, Joelle, and some of his grandchildren.
Sheldon is survived by 2 children: Randall (Evelyn) Dobkin of Boca Raton and Joelle (Kevin) Doherty of Boca Raton, 5 Stepchildren: John (Pat) Lounsbury of Thailand, Kathleen Emery of Atlanta, Richard (Lisa) Lounsbury of Jensen Beach, Douglas (Susan) Lounsbury of Atlanta, and Christopher (Preeya) Lounsbury of Atlanta. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
